The Volcanic Island With the park growing and the amount of visitors, and therefore the need for more permanent staff, raising, the need for a hospital and a school was felt. A small, but well utilized hospital was built in 1960. The school was completed in 1965. When in 1991 Firestarter, a mega looper, was built the school building was extended to also hold its station. Firestarter was the first coaster of its kind, not made known to the world for a few years when Kumba was built in Busch Gardens Tampa Bay. The Insomnia family held the patent on the launch technology, which they sold in 1999. It was then used on Hulk in 1999 at Universal Island of Adventure. Lava Splash, a splash boat ride, was built in 2000.
