Several
hours later, I’m awakened by the sound of the gear
and flaps being extended. We fly over something that
looks like the Netherlands, but I don’t remember
Shirphol being in the water. I was told before I
left to expect the unexpected so I sit back and try
to relax. As we de-plane I wave to Earl, seems he is
in a big hurry to get somewhere. A tall young man,
who goes by the name of Kay Arthur, meets me at
Customs. He said he would help me check into the
Deltawerken and get me to the park. A short time
later I am standing at the gates of one of the
newest and most picturesque parks I have seen in a
long time. The sign above my head says Welcome to
Polder Kolder. Then to my surprise, a statuesque
blonde emerges from the main office. It’s Mama
Bear, and this is her latest creation. So without
anymore stalling let’s take a virtual tour through
this magnificent place.

The main
entrance structure is something to behold. It’s
colorful edifices overlooking both the park and the
man-made lagoon. It seems that Marjan has moved and
rebuilt everything in this country to this one area.
Nothing is an exact copy of the original, but I like
her interpretation better. Across the courtyard are
several monuments. One that stands out looks like
The Swinger. When I asked about it, Marjan told me
that this whole park is a tribute to Amazing
Earl’s rides and scenery. Hmmm, that might explain
his appearance on the plane. We make a left and head
up the stairs to lookout over the lagoon. There sits
a giant waterslide called De Vuurpijl (The Rocket in
Dutch). We board and start up the lift hill, only to
be regaled by a fireworks celebration that’s in
Earl’s honor. As we near the top of the lift hill,
I spot another creation of the guest of honor.
Looking past a flock of annoying seagulls, there
sits The Chute Drop. Mama Bear hasn’t left
anything out of Earl’s work so far.

Relaxing and taking in
all of the great sights is over as we head earthward
in a wet and wild ride. Not to intense, but
refreshing, I ask our hostess about this strange
phenomena and was told that nothing in the park is
over a 6 in intensity. That’s what I like, enjoy
the scenery, eat lots of fattening food and not have
to worry about where my next meal is going to go. |
