Welcome to Portmeirion Village

The following is a description from the Dorling Kindersley Travel Guide to Great Britain, 2000 Edition:

"This bizarre Italianate village on a private peninsula at the top of Cardigan Bay was created by Welsh architect Sir Clough Williams-Ellis (1883 – 1978). He fulfilled a childhood dream by building a village “to my own fancy on my own chosen site.” About 50 buildings surround a central piazza, in styles from Oriental to Gothic. Visitors can stay at the luxurious hotel or in one of the charming village cottages. Portmeirion has been an atmospheric location for many films and television programs, including the popular 1960s television series The Prisoner."
